Prof Warwick Duncan
Prof Duncan is Head of Periodontics at Otago University Dental School where he runs the postgraduate doctoral program for specialist clinical training in Periodontology, as well as an active PhD program in regenerative and stem cell research. He trained as a dentist at Otago University, qualifying BDS (1985), MDS in Periodontics (1992) and PhD (2006). He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (2002), the International College of Dentists (2015), and a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He was promoted Professor in Periodontics in 2015. His current grants are from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment and from industry, for research focused on dental implant therapy, novel biomaterials, regenerative scaffolds and stem cell therapy for bone regeneration, treatment of gum diseases and diagnostic imaging. In 2017, he was appointed Honorary Dental Surgeon to the Governor General of New Zealand and in 2018, as Regimental Colonel of the Royal New Zealand Dental Corps, NZ Defence Force after 38 years military service. He also run a part-time evening practice as a dental specialist clinician.
