CLIMATE

Cairns has a tropical climate, with generally warm summers and mild dry winters. The majority of Cairn’s rainfall occurs during summer between January and March.

The tropics have uniform temperatures throughout the year. Dress is informal and relaxed and smart casual clothes are acceptable almost universally with possibly a light jacket for evening wear.

GETTING TO CAIRNS

Cairns is in Far North Queensland, so flying is the most convenient way of travelling especially if you are coming from a major city within Australia or from overseas. The Cairns airport is the main gateway to the region and is only 7km (approx 4 miles) from the city centre. The airport serves both domestic and international flights.

Driving to Cairns can be a scenic and adventurous way to experience the beauty of Queensland, especially if you are travelling from nearby regions. The Bruce Highway is the main route connecting Brisbane to Cairns. The drive is approximately 1,700 m (approx 1,056 miles) and can take around 20 - 24 hours. Stops could include the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Island, Airlie Beach and Townsville.
